About
Our Mission
Reef Revival is striving to support the restoration and regeneration of damaged coral fragments that have broken of reefs. We aim to nurse these coral back onto established reef systems, specifically in a protected sanctuary zone in the Heron Island. This has been achieved through our innovative creation, the Coral Cradle.
The Coral Cradle facilitates the repopulation of degraded reefs, enhancing biodiversity and helping to prevent further damage.

The Solution
Coral Cradle

STEP 1: Plantation
Coral fragments are fastened to the Coral Cradle’s attachment plate using marine epoxy. The cradle is closed, encasing the fragments within its protective structure which is then nailed to the reef.

STEP 2: Mainternance
The Cradle will protect the coral fragments during their most vulnerable state allowing them to growth, void of physical threats such as boat groundings. Within 1.5 - 2 years these fragments will grow into substantial polyps and begin to emerge through the cradles openings. After 3 years minimum, the cradle will begin to biodegrade in the marine environment, leaving the maturing coral to establish itself on the reef.

STEP 3: Results
These branching coral colonies, that have been able to withstand physical threats as a result of the Coral Cradle, will improve the biodiversity of the reef through supporting a greater variety of marine species and strengthen the overall resilience of the ecosystem
